Day One - Departing Stockholm (70mi)
It turned out there was a running marathon happening in front of the hotel in Stockholm, so there was a lot of activity and excitement in the air as we left. A man named Tomas was super helpful and curious about the trip plans as we were checking the bike bags and getting the bikes set for take off.
Breakfast at the hotel was one of the best! The dill mustard on the salmon was incredible. I need to learn how to make this at home.
Roll-out time ended up being later than planned, but riding through Stockholm was a pleasure. There are so many people on bikes, from all walks of life. The city is built with bikes in mind, including traffic lights specifically on bike lanes to control bike traffic.
Eventually we hit the country side and the fields were beautiful. It’s prime season for Swedish rapeseed and the yellow colors are popping!
It was a nice and rolling landscape as we headed towards Nykoping with the occasional stop for photos.
We stopped for pizza for lunch and I didn’t get a photo of it, but this refreshing water was memorable!
There were small villages along the way we stopped in and got even more hydration.
This Swedish candy (godis) was super tasty and made for good mini fuel throughout the day.
In the end, it was 70 miles of riding with beautiful countryside and no issues. The Swedes have been super nice and helpful, and quite courteous drivers on the highways. More to come tomorrow on the push to Linkoping!
